Women Leaders Driving Change in Menstrual Health

Women Leaders Driving Change in Menstrual Health

On 13th February, Outreach India conducted a training program focused on menstrual health and hygiene management for local women leaders. A total of 21 female leaders from 8 different communities actively participated in this session.
The training aimed to build awareness, break long-standing myths, and promote healthy practices related to menstrual hygiene. In many rural and tribal areas, menstruation is still surrounded by stigma and misinformation, which often affects the health, dignity, and confidence of women and girls. Recognizing this challenge, Outreach India took a step forward to equip local leaders with the right knowledge and tools.

During the session, participants learned about:
• The biological aspects of menstruation
• Importance of hygiene during menstrual cycles
• Safe and affordable menstrual products
• Addressing myths and cultural taboos
• Ways to support adolescent girls in their communities

The training was highly interactive, allowing women to openly share their experiences, ask questions, and learn from one another. This safe and supportive environment encouraged honest conversations that are often missing in community spaces.
Today, the impact of this initiative is already visible. These trained women leaders have begun conducting awareness sessions within their own communities, sharing knowledge with other women and adolescent girls. By doing so, they are helping to break silence around menstruation, promote healthy practices, and build confidence among community members.
These 21 leaders are now acting as change agents, ensuring that the learning extends far beyond the training room and reaches every household. This initiative is part of Outreach India’s ongoing commitment to women empowerment, health awareness, and building sustainable community leadership. By strengthening local leadership, we are creating a ripple effect of knowledge, awareness, and lasting change.
